Hi Paul. Picking up on some of the linkedin debates on this issue - the most successful age group for entrepreneurs are the 39-49 age group. This is because this group have accumulated the skills, knowledge, networks etc for success - and perhaps, more importantly they may have some finance of their own or the collateral and track record to raise finance.

I think that we get a bit overawed by the typical 'wunderkind' entrepreneurs from Facebook and Google et al, and by the stories of famous entrepreneurs having their various childhood schemes.

That's not to say that youth entrepreneurship isn't important, of course! However - the best approaches emphasise 'enterprise skills' - such as leadership, business planning, financial management - that a young person can take into a job should their business fail to get off the ground, or if they delay plans to start a business.

I've always thought that any attempts at boosting successful enterprise should a) focus on those aged 29+ and on people with the skills and contacts to succeed; and b) be available ON their terms - e.g. if you are going to have business planning workshops, have them at evenings and weekends.

Hi Glenn - absolutely agree with this. It seems strange that there should be such a focus around youth entrepreneurship when they are less experienced, and so in general, less equiped, to start a business.

Apologies for the delay of my response. For some reason when I replied earlier my comments didin't appear!
