The antagonism to Tesco and others appears from here (Rural Lincolnshire - or semi Rural)seems to stem from fear of emasculating the small business/shop keepers who feature prominently in small Towns. Is there any research, or knowledge, as to the point at which large Tesco stores et al are a bonus rather than a threat?

I haven't seen anything specifically John. Our research has focused on cities.

Thanks for your comment. I will take the liberty of assuming a smaller Town has to work on the same principles. Hence your quote " ... there are two prongs to private sector economic growth in our cities – the ability to attract businesses from elsewhere and the ability to ‘grow your own’." As you say it is best if both types of growth can be attracted. I will also take the liberty of assuming an education Academy can, in some cases, be classed as in the private sector. With that in mind the proposition Tesco alone is not enough rings true. Again thanks for the two articles.
